Our Founder

Daniel F. Astone, CPA, CA

Daniel is the Chief Lending Officer and Founder of Wellington Hathshire. He has a wealth of experience in both financial and corporate accounting as well as financial due diligence, risk management and security valuation expertise from top-tier Canadian firms.

Prior to founding WH, Daniel worked as a public accountant at KPMG (one of the largest public accounting firms world wide) where he earned his Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Accountant designation. Daniel originally started in KPMG’s audit practice in the Financial Institutions industry group where he specialized in hedge accounting. Over the years he worked with major banks and asset managers including equity, pension and hedge funds where he analyzed financial hedging strategies specifically on foreign exchange, commodity and credit spread risk.

Daniel later transferred to KPMG’s advisory practice in the Financial Risk Management group and spent his tenure analyzing and performing valuation models on complex financial instruments and structured derivative products including Level 3 trading securities. Some of his top advisory clients included Scotiabank Global Banking & Markets, BMO Securities, Deutsche Bank and various private and public equity funds.

Prior to becoming a Chartered Accountant, Daniel spent the earlier part of his career with Scotiabank originating and underwriting mortgage loans and other debt financing products. He has extensive expertise in structuring secured mortgage investments with strong risk management and technical accounting skills. Daniel also held various positions with the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan as an Analyst in their Investment Finance practice.

Daniel is currently a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and has earned the CPA, CA designation. He has also completed Levels I and II of the CFA program.
