The Business

Our companyWellington Hathshire (“WH” or “the Company”) operates in the business of lending capital to qualified borrowers in the form of short-term residential mortgages that are secured against the debtor’s real estate property. During this process WH collects operating interest income on its mortgaged assets under management and subsequently passes on these earnings to the shareholders of its Class A Preferred Shares.

The Company’s mission is to fill the lending gap currently present within Canada’s residential mortgage market and identify high yielding, secure and quality-type investments that allow WH to earn consistent cash flow for its shareholders with the protection of real estate, specifically based in Toronto and the GTA.

WH is incorporated as a private Mortgage Investment Corporation under the laws of the Province of Ontario and is widely recognized in the industry for its principles of high professional standards and commitment to excellence. The Company is subject to ongoing regulation required by the Ontario Securities Commission and is governed by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario Act, 1997 as well as Section 130(1) of the Income Tax Act of Canada.

As a Mortgage Investment Corporation, WH is subject to the following terms and conditions:

  • WH must file, at minimum, annual audited financial statements to the Canada Revenue Agency as well as the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and have its financial statements made available and distributed to all shareholders.
  • WH must distribute 100% of its annual net income to its shareholders in the form of dividend payments. Dividends received are taxed in the hands of the shareholder and may be received in the form of cash or reinvested in the Company’s dividend reinvestment program.
  • WH’s Class A Preferred Shares are qualified for registered investments such as RRSPs, TFSAs, RESPs, RRIFs, LIRAs, LIFs and IPPs.
  • All investments are to be made in Canada, however WH may accept investment capital from individuals, or corporations, outside of Canada.
